The Global Cybersecurity Index for 2022 has been released by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). In this article, I will be showing you the top 10 countries with the best Cybersecurity in Africa and the world at large.

The International Telecommunication Union is the United Nations’ specialized agency for information and communication technologies, driving innovation in ICTs together with 193 Member States and a membership of over 900 companies, universities, and international and regional organizations. It was established over 150 years ago.

According to the ITU, the Global Cybersecurity Index 2022 shows a growing commitment by countries in the world to tackle and reduce cybersecurity threats.

The country’s development is assessed with the five strategic pillars of the union’s Global Cybersecurity Agenda (GCA), which are:

1. Legal Measures
2. Technical Measures
3. Organisational Measures
4. Capacity Building
5. International Copperation

This is then aggregated into an overall score. The current assessment covers the 2019 – 2020 period, and reflects data collated during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The recent index indicates that despite the Covid-19 pandemic, countries are working hard to improve their cyber safety since daily activities and socio-economic services have shifted into the digital sphere.

Below are the top 10 countries with the best cybersecurity in the world, and Africa as a continent.

Looking at the countries with the best cybersecurity in the world, the United States of America ranked number one in the chart, followed by the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia, both in second place.

Looking at the chart of the countries with the best cybersecurity in Africa, Mauritius ranked number one but was 17^th on the global ranking. Egypt came second in Africa, followed by Ghana.
